Hello from the other side! I must’ve made this blog a hundred times… Lol JK!

Hello and welcome to my blog.

My name is Sahra. I am a Midwestern girl whose roots are soiled in East Africa. Both my parents are from Somalia and we migrated to the States while I was still a young child. I am the wife of Farah and mommy to Safa and Ghani.

A little about me: I am a wife. A mother. A daughter. A sister. An auntie. A friend. And a granny. Yes, I am already a grandmother or a “great aunt” as some of you would refer it to. I am completely and absolutely obsessed with traveling, writing, photography, and discovering new things as well as meeting new people. I love to keep up with the latest trends and watch the latest must-see, must-watch TV series, yup even those ratchet ones. Some days I love to cook and so I dedicate some time to finding really good recipes, but I rarely ever make it to cooking…smh. I can tell you so much about myself, but let’s just save that for another blog post, shall we?

I created this blog a long, long time ago for many, many reasons. But essentially this blog’s main purpose is to document my life. I built this blog in 2009 as way to improve my writing skills and write about the things that really interested me. For some time, I stopped writing because life got in the way. Then there came a time when I wanted to come back to blogging and there were so many posts I had written only to delete because I thought that they weren’t good enough. At that time, I really struggled with my writing (I still do) and would eventually convince myself to not publish them.

So, why now? If not now, it will never happen. Right now, at this very moment, I am so motivated and inspired by so many other bloggers. I’ve seen other bloggers who started blogging around the same time I created this blog become so successful because they’ve been consistently growing creatively. And they continued to do so because they didn’t care what others thought. So now, I am at the point where I am only concerned with what I think. If I put my best out there, why care what others think, right? I hope that I can inspire you to do the same. To follow your dreams and passions and live an authentic life only you are happy with. Don’t ever place your dreams aside. I’ve learned that you only have one life to make your dreams come true. The one you are living now. For those of you who are still young, please pursue whatever it is you’d like to do. Explore it. Dare to be YOU and don’t ever let anyone or anything tell you any different.

I hope that I can inspire you to do the same. To follow your dreams and passions and live an authentic life only you are happy with.

IskuFilan is a site dedicated to inspiring others, especially women. I will be sharing my life experiences primarily as a woman, a mother, and a wife. I hope to inspire others like me who juggle between family, work, school and everything else in between. You can expect to find inspirational posts about my thoughts and takes on marriage and relationships as well as other topics. I am not an expert, by any means at all, but I really do enjoy bonding with others over these subjects and I hope you get as much out of it as I do. And I hope you find the IskuFilan in you. I’ll also be sharing my love for photography by showcasing some of my work under the photography page.

If you ever think of any interesting topic you’d like me to write about, please send an email to iskufilan@iskufilan.com or connect with me through my contact page by clicking here.

Finally, I really want to thank the wonderful people who are in my life who’ve pushed me to do what I love. Who have been 100% supportive. It has truly been a long time coming. From the time I started telling them about when I will start my blog and throughout all these years, they’ve been so supportive. I am nothing without them and they make me who I am. They encourage me to do whatever that I think of and always back me up. I am thankful to you all and love you from the bottom of my heart and this blog is dedicated to you guys.

Thank you so much for visiting. I appreciate your time for coming and checking on my site.

Be sure to smile and have a happy day.

XOXO,

Sahra
